Chapter 5: The Blue Suit Reprised

As Asha made her way onto the deck of the boat, she could hear music coming from a battery operated boom box Ben must’ve set up for the occasion. The sun was setting over the water, making everything appear orange. It was the perfect setting for their first real date.

She looked around her to see that two foldout chairs and a table had been covered in white linens and blacks bows for a romantic effect. A hurricane candle sat in the middle of the table, and serving tables sat at the back with what looked like a four course meal waiting for them. Ben had obviously spared no trouble or expense making this night perfect for them both.

As Ben stepped out from the boat, Asha could see that he was wearing his blue Armani suit again, just like the first day they met. It was nice but she was thankful his hair had been left messy instead of slicked back and sprayed. Something about that one imperfection really made him look incredibly sexy to Asha.

Asha wiped a couple of happy tears from her eyes and embraced Ben. She had never felt as loved as she did at that moment. She had no idea what she had been thinking, shutting herself off from the world after her parents had died. Sure, it was tragic and had uprooted her life, but it didn’t mean she needed to punish herself any more than what the circumstances already had. In fact, she had needed to feel love and comfort more than ever. How did she not see it before?

She silently thanked her parents, wherever they had ended up, for leaving her the clues she needed to find her way back to happiness and for teaching her to be herself and love with her whole heart.

Asha took a deep breath so she wouldn’t become emotional again and sat down in the chair Ben had pulled out for her. Ben sat down across from her, smiling. Asha looked at him curiously, wondering why they weren’t eating. “Oh, server!” he called, intriguing her even more.

Out came Leo, dressed in slacks and a button down shirt. He set down two plates and a vase filled with blue tulips. “How did you get here before me?” Asha couldn’t believe it. How had he made it out of the house without her knowing? She felt happy but was obviously a bad parent, or whatever she was.

“I snuck out the back and rode my bike.” Asha couldn’t help herself. She stood up and hugged Leo, planting a big, wet kiss on his cheek. He made a face, making clear his disgust and embarrassment.

“Thank you, Leo.” He smiled at her and nodded before getting back into character.

Leo grabbed the first tray of food on the serving table and brought it out to them. “For the appetizer, we have garlic shrimp scampi.” Asha tried not to giggle at the serious look on his face as he said it and served it to them.
